Carole has worked in international development for over twenty five years and has significant experience in all governance related issues at both central and local level. In her consulting career, she has worked on a wide variety of assignments in the UK, Africa, Asia, Europe, the Caribbean and Oceania primarily in the public sector. Her sector experience includes health, education, transport, electricity, water, agriculture, local and central government.
She has worked directly or indirectly for a large number of bi-lateral and multi-lateral donor agencies including DFID, EC, GTZ, SIDA, Irish Aid, CIDA, RNE, ADB, AfDB, KfW, DANIDA, UNDP, IMF and the World Bank. As a qualified public finance accountant she has extensive experience in public sector and public financial management reform, institutional development, and policymaking in the UK and developing countries. She is an expert in public financial diagnostics such as the PEFA methodology, CFAAs, CPARs, PEMAAPs, PERs and Fiduciary Risk Assessments. She also conducts training for a number of organisations and governments on all aspects of public financial management, accountability and anti-corruption.
Carole graduated from the University of Southampton (when they won the FA cup!) and is a member of the Chartered Institute of Public Finance Accountancy (CIPFA) and the Institute of Consulting (Certified Management Consultant). In her free time she enjoys horse riding, travelling and gardening.
Nico has worked for sixteen in years in the South African civil service and has significant experience in the security sector, central government operations and international relations. He served as a diplomat in Canberra (Australia) and Lusaka (Zambia). Following the first democratic elections in South Africa, he was actively involved in civil service reform and mentoring of managers. He has also worked in the private sector for five years where he gained experience in the running and reforming of small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs).
Nico holds a MA in Social Anthropology (Northwest University, South Africa) and a MBA (International Public Service) (University of Birmingham, UK). He is an Associate member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD). He specialises in ethnicity, cross cultural communication and change management in an international context.
He also used to be a qualified golf professional with coaching experience ranging from beginners to professionals in South Africa, Ghana and the UK. His book Basic Golf Skills was published in 2004.
